5 Fashion Hacks to Keep Your Thighs from Rubbing in a Dress

5 Fashion Hacks to Keep Your Thighs from Rubbing in a Dress

Chafing of the thighs can be uncomfortable and even painful for anyone who wears dresses, especially on hot days. But don't worry — there are several easy hacks to help you keep your thighs from rubbing in a dress! From bike shorts to anti-chafing products, these five fashion hacks will keep you stylishly comfortable all day.

What are Thighs Rubbing?

Thigh chafing is a common problem for many people who wear dresses, especially during hot weather. It occurs when two surfaces of the skin rub together and cause irritation. This can result in redness, raw skin, and even blisters.

Thigh chafing while wearing dresses can be particularly uncomfortable, painful, and embarrassing due to the sensitive nature of the skin irritation. Fortunately, several fashion hacks can help prevent thigh rubbing in a dress.

From using baby powder to wearing slip shorts, these solutions will help keep your thighs from rubbing against each other and irritating the delicate skin. Additionally, products specifically designed to prevent inner-thigh chafings, such as cocoa butter and specially formulated skincare ingredients, can relieve this issue!

Hack 1: Wear Slip Shorts or Bike Shorts

Wearing slip shorts or bike shorts underneath a dress is one of the best fashion hacks to prevent thigh rubbing. This is because they provide a protective barrier between your skin and the material of your dress, reducing friction and preventing chafing.

Slip shorts are made with a breathable fabric that helps to keep your skin cool and comfortable, while bike shorts feature an elastic band that fits snugly around your waist and prevents the fabric from riding up.

Both types of shorts protect against chafed skin and uncomfortable friction without adding bulk or detracting from the look of your outfit. Additionally, they will move with you as you walk, ensuring they stay in place throughout the day. So if you want to keep your thighs from rubbing against each other in a dress, wearing a pair of slip shorts or bike shorts underneath is a great option.

Hack 2: Apply an Anti-chafing Product to Your Thighs

If you're looking for another great way to prevent thigh chafing, you should consider using anti-chafing products. These specially formulated lotions and creams can reduce friction, soothe irritated skin, and even help prevent raw skin from forming. Many of these top skin chafing products contain ingredients such as cocoa butter, vitamin E, and aloe vera, which help nourish the delicate skin on your thighs while providing a barrier to reducing friction.

Some anti-chafing products are talc-free, so that they won't leave a white residue on your clothing like regular baby powder. Applying an anti-chafing product before you wear your dress is a great way to keep your thighs from rubbing together during hot weather or engaging in painful chafing in physical activities like running or dancing.

Hack 3: Opt for a Dress With a Longer Hemline

If you're looking for another great way to prevent your thighs from rubbing together in a dress, consider opting for a longer hemline. Longer hemlines help reduce friction between your thighs by providing more coverage and creating a buffer zone that prevents skin-to-skin contact. When shopping for dresses, look for at least knee-length or midi-length styles to ensure that your thighs are fully covered.

Hack 4: Wear Leggings or Tights Underneath Your Dress

Another great way to keep your thighs from rubbing together in a dress is to wear leggings or tights underneath your skirt. Leggings and tights provide an extra layer of protection between your skin and the fabric of your dress, decreasing the risk of chafing. Wearing leggings or tights also helps add coverage to shorter dresses, making it easier to prevent thigh contact.

If you’re looking for a breathable option, consider choosing lightweight fabrics such as cotton or spandex, which allow for greater airflow. For those who get particularly sweaty during summer, moisture-wicking materials can help wick away excess sweat and reduce skin-to-skin contact in warm weather.

Hack 5: Use Deodorant as an Anti-chafing Product Alternative

If you’re looking for an alternative to anti-chafing products, deodorant can be a great way to prevent chafing thighs and keep your thighs from rubbing together in a dress. Deodorants contain ingredients such as aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly and aluminum chlorohydrate that form an invisible barrier between the skin and fabric of your clothing, reducing friction between them.

Unlike traditional anti-chafing products, deodorants are non-greasy and won’t leave residue behind. To use it as an anti-chafing product, apply a small amount of deodorant to your inner thighs or other areas prone to chafing before donning your dress. You may also want to apply some baby powder afterward for extra protection against moisture and sweat.

The best dress to keep your body and thighs from skin rubbing is one that fits comfortably and doesn't ride up when you walk. Here are some dress styles that can help prevent thigh chafing:

  1. Maxi dresses: These long, flowing dresses are perfect for preventing chafing as they cover your legs completely.
  2. A-line dresses flare slightly from the waist, allowing your thighs to move without rubbing together.
  3. Shift dresses: These dresses are loose and relaxed, providing plenty of space for your thighs to move without chafing.
  4. Wrap dresses feature a wrap-around style that cinches at the waist and provides enough room for your thighs to move comfortably.
  5. Skater dresses are fitted at the waist and flare out at the bottom, providing enough room for your thighs to move freely.

ABOUT US

Meet our founder: CarrieRae

Undersummers Shortlettes were created CarrieRae's personal need for comfortable thigh protection when she was working as a teacher. In 2011, her thick thighs rubbed and she needed a comfortable solution.  Pants are blazing hot in the Houston spring/summer months, shorts are not acceptable to wear to work, so she was left with capris and dresses.  Her thighs did not support wearing dresses, thigh chafing was too uncomfortable.  The idea of wearing a breezy dress sounded so comfortable to her, that she created the solution to her problem:  The Original Lace Shortlette®️. She wanted something to wear that was a single layer, the legs stayed put, comfy, and most importantly, pretty.
