The Rise of Longer Shorts in Fashion

Longer shorts have taken the fashion industry by storm, with celebrities and fashion icons sporting them all over the world. These shorts give you a comfortable, relaxed feel while still looking stylish. They're versatile, too, as they can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion.

A Brief History of Longer Shorts

Longer shorts have been around for years, but it wasn't until recently that they became a fashion statement. In the past, longer shorts were associated with an older generation or a more conservative style. However, fashion trends are always evolving, and now longer shorts are a staple in many fashion-forward wardrobes.

The trend of longer shorts can be traced back to the 1990s when grunge fashion was at its peak. The relaxed fit and longer length of shorts were a staple in the grunge look, and it quickly caught on. However, it wasn't until the last few years that longer shorts made a comeback in the fashion world.

One reason for the resurgence of longer shorts is the growing trend of athleisure. Athleisure is a style of clothing that combines athletic wear with everyday wear. Longer shorts fit perfectly into this trend as they are comfortable, practical, and stylish.

Why Longer Shorts are Trending Now

For many people, comfort is a top priority. With longer shorts, you can stay comfortable while still looking fashionable. The relaxed fit and breathable fabrics make them perfect for hot summer days. Additionally, longer shorts come in a variety of styles and designs, making them a versatile addition to any wardrobe.

Another reason for the popularity of longer shorts is their ability to flatter many body types. Unlike shorter shorts, which can be unflattering on some body types, anyone can wear longer shorts. They provide coverage and comfort while still showing off your legs.

Longer shorts are also perfect for those who want to dress modestly without sacrificing style. They provide coverage without looking frumpy or outdated.

Finally, longer shorts are a great option for those who want to try something new. They offer a fresh take on traditional shorts and can add a unique touch to any outfit.

Choosing the Perfect Pair of Longer Shorts

Choosing the perfect pair of longer shorts can be tricky, but with these tips, you'll be able to find the right fit for your body type and style.

Finding the Right Fit

The first step in choosing a pair of longer shorts is to determine your body type. Longer shorts can be flattering on many body shapes, but finding the right fit is essential. Look for shorts that fit comfortably around your waist and hips without being too tight or too loose.

When trying on longer shorts, pay attention to the rise. A higher rise can elongate your legs and create a flattering silhouette. Conversely, a lower rise can make your legs look shorter, and your body appear wider.

Exploring Different Materials and Patterns

Finding the right fabric can make all the difference when it comes to materials. Cotton and linen are popular choices for summer because they're breathable and lightweight. If you want a dressier look, consider silk or satin.

Patterns can add another dimension to your longer shorts look. Stripes and plaids are classic options, while florals and graphics can add a pop of color.

Selecting the Ideal Length for Your Body Type

The length of your longer shorts can affect how they flatter your body type. As a general rule, longer shorts should hit about an inch above the knee. This length can elongate your legs while still providing coverage. However, if you're taller, you can go a bit longer, and if you're shorter, try to avoid longer lengths that can overwhelm your frame.

Styling Longer Shorts with Various Outfits

Wondering how to style your new longer shorts? Here are some ideas to help you rock them with different outfits.

Pairing with Casual Tops and Tees

Pair your longer shorts with a simple t-shirt or tank top for a casual look. You can tuck in your shirt to show off your waistline or leave it untucked for a more relaxed vibe. Add a pair of sneakers, sandals or flats, and you're ready to go!

Dressing Up with Button-Downs and Blouses

If you want to dress up your longer shorts, dress them up with a button-down shirt or blouse. Add a statement necklace or earrings and a pair of heels or wedges. This look is perfect for a night out or a dressier occasion.

Layering with Jackets and Cardigans

Consider layering your longer shorts with a denim jacket or cardigan for those cooler summer days. Add a scarf or hat for a boho-chic look, or wear a blazer to dress them up for work.

Accessorizing Your Longer Shorts Look

No outfit is complete without accessories, and your longer shorts look is no exception! Here are some tips on accessorizing your outfit.

Choosing the Right Footwear

The right shoes can make or break your look. For a casual look, consider wearing flat sandals or sneakers. Sneakers are a great option for a sporty look, especially when paired with a graphic tee and a baseball cap. For a dressier look, opt for strappy sandals or heels.

Strappy sandals with a block heel are perfect for a night out, while nude heels can make your legs look longer and leaner. Boots or booties can be a stylish and practical choice if it's cooler outside. Ankle boots with a stacked heel can give you a boho vibe, while combat boots can add an edgy touch to your outfit.

Adding Statement Jewelry

Add a statement necklace or earrings to your outfit to add some sparkle. Wear layered necklaces or a stack of bracelets for a more boho vibe. If you're wearing a patterned top, opt for simple jewelry to avoid clashing. A pair of hoop earrings or a pendant necklace can add a touch of elegance to your outfit without overwhelming it.

Incorporating Belts and Bags

A belt can add definition to your waistline and create a flattering silhouette. Consider a braided or woven belt for a summer vibe. If you're wearing a loose-fitting top, a belt can cinch in your waist and create a more polished look. Bags are another accessory to consider.

A crossbody bag is perfect for a casual look, while a clutch or structured bag is better for a dressy occasion. A backpack can add a sporty touch to your outfit, while a tote bag is perfect for running errands.

Playing with Colors and Prints

Longer shorts come in a variety of colors and prints, so don't be afraid to experiment with different options. If you're wearing a solid-colored top, consider wearing patterned shorts to add some interest to your outfit. If you're wearing a patterned top, opt for solid-colored shorts to avoid overwhelming your outfit. When it comes to colors, neutral shades like beige, white, and black are versatile and can be paired with almost anything. If you're feeling bold, try wearing bright colors like red or yellow to make a statement.

ABOUT US

Meet our founder: CarrieRae

Undersummers Shortlettes were created CarrieRae's personal need for comfortable thigh protection when she was working as a teacher. In 2011, her thick thighs rubbed and she needed a comfortable solution.  Pants are blazing hot in the Houston spring/summer months, shorts are not acceptable to wear to work, so she was left with capris and dresses.  Her thighs did not support wearing dresses, thigh chafing was too uncomfortable.  The idea of wearing a breezy dress sounded so comfortable to her, that she created the solution to her problem:  The Original Lace Shortlette®️. She wanted something to wear that was a single layer, the legs stayed put, comfy, and most importantly, pretty.
