The Journey of a Garment: From American Soil to Your Wardrobe

The Journey of a Garment: From American Soil to Your Wardrobe

Welcome to the world of fashion, where clothes made in the USA hold a special place. Choosing American-made means more than just wearing a piece of clothing. It's about quality, helping the environment, and supporting fair work practices. It’s something special and meaningful.

At Undersummers we are a brand that really cares about making clothes right here at home. We believe in making comfortable clothes that everyone can wear, all while making sure we do it the right way. We think it's important to support local workers and use materials that don’t harm the planet.

We want to take you on a little journey. Imagine following a piece of clothing from the very first idea of it, all the way to when it arrives ready for you to wear. You’ll get to see how we pick the best materials, how American workers with amazing skills bring those ideas to life, how we make sure everything is top-notch quality, and finally, how these clothes get to you.

Let’s start with how we come up with our designs. Our clothes are made to make sure you’re covered comfortably – we use plenty of fabric and design them so they don’t pinch or squeeze. We aim for a balance of modesty and style, especially for our customers with curves. We want everyone to feel included and comfortable, which is why our team of designers, who have over 60 years of experience in fashion, put so much thought into every piece of clothing we make.

When we pick the materials for Undersummers clothes, we're really careful about it. We love to use materials that come from right here in the USA. That way, we can support local businesses and make sure everything is top-notch quality. But there's one special fabric we use that comes from Korea or China, depending on the quality of the day. It's our super soft, stretchy fabric that keeps you cool and comfy. We bring it in because it's the best of its kind and makes our clothes feel amazing.

But don't worry, we're still all about being good to the planet. We choose fabrics that are kind to the environment. For example, our Lux Cotton Modal Blend is something we're really proud of because it's made in the USA and feels incredible to wear.

By picking these materials, we show how much we care about making clothes that last, feel great, and are made in a way that's good for the Earth. We're all about giving you the best, in the most responsible way we can.

This journey from the drawing board to your wardrobe isn’t just about making clothes. It's about making a difference. By choosing Undersummers, you’re not just choosing comfort and style. You’re supporting local jobs, ethical manufacturing, and environmental responsibility. You’re wearing clothes that carry stories of American craftsmanship and dedication.  You can see our entire Made in the USA collection here.

When product pricing or quality is best abroad we have made the difficult decision to move some production overseas.  These decisions are always done thoughtfully with the utmost responsibility and care for our communities and environment in mind.

So, next time you wear an Undersummers piece, remember the journey it’s been on. Remember the hands that crafted it, the care that went into its design, and the materials that were chosen with the planet in mind. And know that with Undersummers, you’re part of a bigger story – one that’s all about making fashion that feels good in every way.

Thank you for choosing to be part of our journey. Together, we’re not just making clothes. We’re making a difference.

ABOUT US

Meet our founder: CarrieRae

Undersummers Shortlettes were created CarrieRae's personal need for comfortable thigh protection when she was working as a teacher. In 2011, her thick thighs rubbed and she needed a comfortable solution.  Pants are blazing hot in the Houston spring/summer months, shorts are not acceptable to wear to work, so she was left with capris and dresses.  Her thighs did not support wearing dresses, thigh chafing was too uncomfortable.  The idea of wearing a breezy dress sounded so comfortable to her, that she created the solution to her problem:  The Original Lace Shortlette®️. She wanted something to wear that was a single layer, the legs stayed put, comfy, and most importantly, pretty.
