Choosing the Right Shapewear

The Ultimate Guide to Wearing Shapewear with Underwear

Shapewear can be a great tool for smoothing and shaping the body, but choosing the right shapewear is critical to achieving the desired results. Here are some factors to consider when choosing shapewear:

  1. Types of Shapewear: There are many different types of shapewear on the market, each with its purpose. Some common types include:
  • Bodysuits: These cover the torso and sometimes the thighs and hips. They can be worn with your bra or without, depending on the style.
  • High-waisted shorts or panties: These provide coverage support for the lower abdomen, hips, and thighs.
  • Waist trainers: These are designed to cinch the waist and create an hourglass shape. They are typically made of latex and are worn tightly around the midsection.
  • Control camisoles: These shape the upper body, including the back, waist, and bust.
  1. Size: It’s essential to choose shapewear that fits appropriately. If it’s too tight, it can be uncomfortable and even restrict breathing. If it’s too loose, it won’t provide the desired shaping effect. Be sure to consult the manufacturer’s size chart when choosing shapewear, and consider going up a size if you’re between sizes.
  2. Fabric: Shapewear is typically made of a blend of nylon and spandex. Look for breathable and moisture-wicking shapewear, especially if you’ll be wearing it for extended periods.
  3. Compression level: Shapewear has different compression levels, ranging from light to firm. Light compression is best for smoothing bumps and lumps, while firm compression can help to create a more dramatic shaping effect. Be sure to choose the compression level that’s right for your needs.
  4. Tips for finding the perfect fit: When buying shapewear, be sure to:
  • Choose the right size: Consult the manufacturer’s size chart, and don’t be afraid to go up a size if needed.
  • Check the fit: Make sure the shapewear fits snugly but isn’t too tight. It shouldn’t cause discomfort or restrict movement.
  • Move around: Walk, sit, and bend over to ensure the shapewear stays in place and doesn’t roll down.
  • Consider the clothing you’ll be wearing: Make sure the shapewear is compatible with the clothing you’ll be wearing over it. It shouldn’t be visible or create additional bulges.

Matching Shapewear with Underwear

The Ultimate Guide to Wearing Shapewear with Underwear

Matching shapewear with the right underwear is crucial to achieving a smooth and flattering look. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  1. The importance of matching shapewear with underwear: Wearing the wrong type of underwear with shapewear can result in visible panty lines or bunching, which can be unflattering. The right underwear can provide additional shaping support and enhance the overall look of the shapewear.
  2. Types of underwear to wear with shapewear: Some types of underwear that work well with shapewear include:
  • Thongs: These provide the most seamless line look and won’t create visible panty lines.
  • Seamless panties: These are designed to be invisible under clothing and can provide additional shaping support. The shortlette or anti-chafing underwear by Undersummers features a seamless inner thigh design.
  • High-waisted panties can provide shaping support for the lower abdomen and waist and be worn with high-waisted shapewear pieces.
  1. How to choose the right underwear: When choosing underwear to wear with shapewear, consider the following:
  • Fabric: Look for underwear made of a breathable and moisture-wicking fabric, such as cotton or a synthetic blend.
  • Size: Ensure the underwear fits appropriately and doesn’t create bulges or visible panty lines.
  • Style: Choose a style compatible with the shapewear you’ll wear, providing additional shaping support if desired.

Tips for Wearing Shapewear with Underwear

When it comes to wearing shapewear with underwear, choosing pieces that both flatter and support your body is important. Start by selecting a shapewear style that suits your body shape—hourglass figures should opt for bodysuits or dresses, while those with larger thighs may find high-rise shapewear shorts more comfortable.

When choosing underwear, choose styles that won't be visible through your shapewear. Thong styles are usually best for tight-fitting garments, and you may want to choose a color that closely matches your skin tone so that it won't stand out against the fabric of your shapewear piece.

Consider investing in a mid-thigh shaper or a Calvin Klein product for extra support and flexibility if you plan on wearing underwear with skinny jeans or skirts. With these tips in mind, you can easily confidently rock Kim Kardashian's signature look!

ABOUT US

Meet our founder: CarrieRae

Undersummers Shortlettes were created CarrieRae's personal need for comfortable thigh protection when she was working as a teacher. In 2011, her thick thighs rubbed and she needed a comfortable solution.  Pants are blazing hot in the Houston spring/summer months, shorts are not acceptable to wear to work, so she was left with capris and dresses.  Her thighs did not support wearing dresses, thigh chafing was too uncomfortable.  The idea of wearing a breezy dress sounded so comfortable to her, that she created the solution to her problem:  The Original Lace Shortlette®️. She wanted something to wear that was a single layer, the legs stayed put, comfy, and most importantly, pretty.
